My dad have already book our class chalet for us. From the 15 dec - 17 dec three days, i am sorry if you have something on during those days but this is the best timing i can ever book already. Apologies for the delayed greetings. Nonetheless, A BIG THANK YOU to all of you for making NCHS Shines a success. We have recieved alot of compliments for our stall in terms of its success. This would never have been possible without YOU!

I would like to especially thank the following people:

Michelle - for ensuring that everyone was invloved in the project, assigning and compromising with the many of you on your various positions in the committe. This is a very important task because it is not a a man show. Sincere thanks Michelle.

Jovi - for ensuring the execution of the project on the day before and the very day. thank you for making sure everyone did their jobs and for making sure we were on target. this was very neccesary because without you many of us, including myself would have been directionless.

The Reporters Without Borders index measures the state of press freedom in the world. It reflects the degree of freedom that journalists and news organisations enjoy in each country, and the efforts made by the authorities to respect and ensure respect for this freedom.
A score and a position is assigned to each country in the final ranking. They are complementary indicators that together assess the state of press freedom. A country can change position from year to year even if its score stays the same, and vice-versa.

This ranking reflects the situation during a specific period. It is based solely on events between 1 September 2006 and 1 September 2007. It does not look at human rights violations in general, just press freedom violations.

To compile this index, Reporters Without Borders prepared a questionnaire with 50 criteria that assess the state of press freedom in each country. It includes every kind of violation directly affecting journalists (such as murders, imprisonment, physical attacks and threats) and news media (censorship, confiscation of newspaper issues, searches and harassment). Ánd it includes the degree of impunity enjoyed by those responsible for these press freedom violations.

It also measures the level of self-censorship in each country and the ability of the media to investigate and criticise. Financial pressure, which is increasingly common, is also assessed and incorporated into the final score.

The questionnaire takes account of the legal framework for the media (including penalties for press offences, the existence of a state monopoly for certain kinds of media and how the media are regulated) and the level of independence of the public media. It also reflects violations of the free flow of information on the Internet.

The Core

The 'core' consists of Europe (excluding Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus) , the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Israel. Within this region is where most of the positive characteristics of globalization typically occur: transnational links, modern development (i.e. higher wages, access to healthcare, adequate food/water/shelter), scientific innovation, and increasing economic prosperity. These countries also tend to be highly industrialized and have a rapidly-growing service sector (tertiary sector).

The top twenty countries ranked by the United Nations Human Development Index are all in the core. However, of note is the slowing, stagnant, and occasionally declining population growth of these countries.
The opportunities created by these advantages perpetuate a world driven by individuals in the core. People in positions of power and influence around the world are often brought up or educated in the core (nearly 90% of world "leaders" have a degree from a Western university).

The Periphery

The 'periphery' consists of the countries in the rest of the world: Africa, South America, Asia (excluding Japan and South Korea), and Russia and many of its neighbors. Although some parts of this area exhibit positive development (especially Pacific Rim locations in China), it is generally characterized by extreme poverty and a low standard of living. Health care is non-existent in many places, there is less access to potable water than in the industrialized core, and poor infrastructure engenders slum conditions.

Population is skyrocketing in the periphery because of a number of contributing factors including a limited ability to move and the use of children as means to support a family, among others. (Learn more about Population growth and the demographic transition.)
Many people living in rural areas perceive opportunities in cities and take action to migrate there, even though there are not enough jobs or housing to support them. Over one billion people now live in slum conditions, and the majority of population growth around the world is occurring in the periphery.

The rural-to-urban migration and high birth rates of the periphery are creating both megacities, urban areas with over 8 million people, and hypercities, urban areas with over 20 million people. These cities, such as Mexico City or Manila, have little infrastructure and feature rampant crime, massive unemployment, and a huge informal sector.

hi all, weiting here...... to do the total defence thing =X

i want to defence my family,friends and country. If i don't defence my country, enemy will attack and destroy my country and i will lose my beloved ones. i treasure every moment with them as we only have the very one and only chance to be fated with each other this life. If we are alone in the world, then there will be no joy or laughter.so by protecting our country is the most important thing in order to be together with ur love ones =)

What i want to defend??
I guess ,
It is my friends , family and economic.
Well ,
My friends& family stands a place in my heart.
Always being there when i need them.
They are of course my dear ones.
What would i do without them?
As for economic ,
Without economic there would be no high technologies
to help out in our daily lives ,
eg ; Handphones for better communications Etc.
&People would go around without jobs ,
cause they did not study.
Singapore is the best& im proud to be a singaporean!
This is where i was born& being brought up.
So defending singapore is also part of our jobs =DD

Total Defence:

I want to protect my family and friends because they are the ones that make my life meaningful. Without them, there is no meaning in my life. My friends make me laugh and play with each other. My family and friends give me happy memories that last forever. Like when my whole family went out to fly kites and play board games with each other.

P.S. The hamster was given away. So we could not play with it anymore. Study hard for your Common Test but remember not to stress yourself out!!!
